एक दिन दिति बिना पांव धोए ही शय्या पर लेट गई। उस समय उसे निद्रा आ गई। तब इंद्र ने हाथ में वज्र लेकर उसके गर्भ में प्रवेश किया और उसके सात टुकड़े कर दिए। इस प्रकार वज्र से आघात पाकर गर्भ जोर-जोर से रोने लगा। 37-38
One day Diti lay down on her bed without purifying her feet. At that time she was overcome by sleep. Then Indra entered her womb with a thunderbolt in his hand and broke the great womb into seven pieces. Being thus struck by the thunderbolt, the womb began to cry loudly. 37-38.
