'तब से अधिकांश लोग सुन्दर होने लगे। उस समय अहिल्या ने अपने विनीत वचनों से महर्षि गौतम को प्रसन्न करके कहा - 'विप्रवर! ब्रह्मर्षि! देवराज ने आपका रूप धारण करके मेरा अपमान किया है। मैं उन्हें पहचान न सकी। अतः मैंने स्वेच्छा से नहीं, बल्कि अनजाने में ही यह अपराध किया है। अतः आप मुझ पर दया करें।'॥39-40॥
‘Since then most of the people started becoming beautiful. At that time Ahalya pleased Maharishi Gautam with her polite words and said – ‘Vipravar! Brahmarshi! Devraj has defamed me by assuming your form. I could not recognize him. Hence I have committed this crime unknowingly, not out of self-will. Therefore you should be merciful to me.’॥ 39-40॥
