यदि मुझे माता जानकी का दर्शन न हो, तो मैं यहीं वानप्रस्थी हो जाऊँगा। जो फल या अन्य खाद्य पदार्थ अपने आप मेरे हाथ में आ जाए, अथवा जो फल या अन्य खाद्य पदार्थ दूसरे की इच्छा से मेरे मुख में पड़ जाए, उसी से निर्वाह करूँगा और वृक्ष के नीचे शौच, संतोष आदि नियमों का पालन करते हुए निवास करूँगा॥40॥
If I do not get the darshan of Janaki, I shall become a Vanaprasthi here. I shall live on whatever fruit or other edible thing comes to my hands by itself or whatever fruit or other edible thing falls in my mouth by the will of the other, I shall survive on that and shall live under a tree by following the rules of cleanliness, contentment etc.॥ 40॥
