उस समय श्वास लेता हुआ रावण फुंफकारते हुए सर्प के समान जान पड़ता था। उसके पास पहुँचकर वानरराज हनुमान अत्यन्त व्याकुल हो उठे और सहसा ऐसे हट गए मानो अत्यन्त भयभीत हों और सीढ़ियाँ चढ़कर दूसरी वेदी पर जा खड़े हुए। वहाँ से वे महावानर उस मदोन्मत्त राक्षससिंह को देखने लगे।
