शास्त्रप्रयोगाद् विविधाश्च वेदा-
दनन्यरूपा: पुरुषस्य दारा:।
दारप्रदानाद्धि न दानमन्यत्
प्रदृश्यते ज्ञानवतां हि लोके॥ ३८॥
 
 
अनुवाद
'पवित्र कर्मकाण्डों में यज्ञ के अनुष्ठान में पति-पत्नी का संयुक्त अधिकार है - पुरुष अपनी पत्नी को साथ लिए बिना यज्ञ का अनुष्ठान नहीं कर सकता। इसके अतिरिक्त नाना प्रकार के वैदिक शास्त्रों में भी पत्नी को पति के शरीर का आधा भाग बताया गया है। अन्य स्त्रियाँ अपने पतियों से अभिन्न सिद्ध होती हैं। (अतः मुझे मारने से तुम पर स्त्री-हत्या का दोष नहीं लगेगा और दूसरे को पत्नी प्राप्त होगी; क्योंकि) संसार में ज्ञानी पुरुषों की दृष्टि में स्त्रीदान से बढ़कर दूसरा कोई दान नहीं है। 38॥
 
‘In the sacred rituals, husband and wife have joint rights in the rituals of Yagya – a man cannot perform the rituals of Yagya without taking his wife along. Apart from this, various types of Vedic scriptures also describe the wife as half of the husband's body. Other women are proved to be inseparable from their husbands.
