यदि तुम राजा होकर धर्म का पालन करते, तो तुम भी वही करते जो मैंने किया है। मनु ने राजा के सदाचार का वर्णन करने वाले दो श्लोक कहे हैं, जो स्मृतियों में सुने गए हैं और जिन्हें धर्मपालन में कुशल पुरुषों ने आदरपूर्वक स्वीकार किया है। उनके अनुसार इस समय मेरा आचरण ऐसा ही है (वे श्लोक इस प्रकार हैं—)॥30॥
‘Had you, being a king, followed Dharma, you would have done the same thing that I have done. Manu has said two verses which explain the good conduct of a king, which are heard in the Smritis and which have been accepted with respect by those who are skilled in following Dharma. According to them, this is my conduct at this time (those verses are as follows—)॥ 30॥
