हृदयस्थं च ते च्छन्दो विज्ञातं तपसा मया।
इह वासं प्रतिज्ञाय मया सह तपोवने॥ १६॥
अनुवाद
'आपने तपोवन में मेरे साथ रहकर शेष वनवास यहीं बिताने की इच्छा प्रकट की है, किन्तु आपने मुझसे अन्यत्र रहने के लिए उपयुक्त स्थान के विषय में पूछा है। इसके पीछे आपका हार्दिक अभिप्राय क्या है? यह मैं अपनी आध्यात्मिक शक्तियों से जान गया हूँ। (आपने ऋषियों की रक्षा के लिए राक्षसों का वध करने की प्रतिज्ञा की है। यह प्रतिज्ञा अन्यत्र निवास करके ही पूरी हो सकती है; क्योंकि राक्षस यहाँ आते ही नहीं)।॥16॥
‘You have expressed your desire to stay with me in Tapovan and spend the rest of the exile here, but you have asked me about a suitable place to live elsewhere. What is your heartfelt intention behind this? I have come to know this through my spiritual powers (You have pledged to kill the demons to protect the sages. This pledge can be fulfilled only by living elsewhere; because demons do not come here).॥ 16॥
