भगवान अगस्त्य के तेज से यह सम्पूर्ण दिशा तीनों लोकों में 'दक्षिणा' कहलायी, इस आश्रम के चारों ओर अभय आदि गुणों को प्रदान करने में समर्थ होने के कारण तथा क्रूर कर्म दानवों के लिए अजेय होने के कारण यह इसी नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुई और इसे 'अगस्त्य की दिशा' भी कहते हैं ॥84॥
'Due to the glory of Lord Agastya, this entire direction was called 'Dakshina' in all the three worlds, due to it being capable of imparting the qualities of fearlessness etc. around this ashram and being invincible to cruel Karma demons, it became famous by this name and it is also called 'Agastya's Disha'. 84॥
