ब्रह्मणा समनुज्ञात: सोऽप्युपाविशदासने।
उपविष्टे तदा तस्मिन् साक्षाल्लोकपितामहे॥ २७॥
तद्गतेनैव मनसा वाल्मीकिर्ध्यानमास्थित:।
पापात्मना कृतं कष्टं वैरग्रहणबुद्धिना॥ २८॥
यत् तादृशं चारुरवं क्रौञ्चं हन्यादकारणात्। |

| ब्रह्माजी की अनुमति पाकर वे भी आसन पर बैठ गए। उस समय लोकपितामह ब्रह्मा के सामने विराजमान होने पर भी वाल्मीकि का मन कौए पक्षी की घटना पर ही केन्द्रित रहा। वे सोचने लगे कि - 'हाय! जिसकी बुद्धि वैर-विरोध में लगी रहती है, उस पापी व्याध ने बिना कोई अपराध किए ही उस सुन्दर चहचहाते कौए पक्षी के प्राण हर लिए।' 27-28 1/2॥ |
