त्र्यहोऽश्वमेध: संख्यात: कल्पसूत्रेण ब्राह्मणै:।
चतुष्टोममहस्तस्य प्रथमं परिकल्पितम्॥ ४०॥
उक्थ्यं द्वितीयं संख्यातमतिरात्रं तथोत्तरम्।
कारितास्तत्र बहवो विहिता: शास्त्रदर्शनात्॥ ४१॥ |

| कल्पसूत्र और ब्राह्मण ग्रंथों में अश्वमेध के लिए सावन के तीन दिन बताए गए हैं। पहले दिन होने वाले सावन को चतुष्टोम (अग्निष्टोम) कहते हैं। दूसरे दिन होने वाले सावन को उक्थ्य और तीसरे दिन होने वाले सावन को अति रात्रि कहते हैं। उसमें शास्त्रोक्त अनेक अन्य अनुष्ठान भी किए जाते हैं। 40-41। |

| In Kalpasutra and Brahmana texts, three days of Savan have been mentioned for Ashwamedha. The Savan that takes place on the first day is called Chatushtoma (‘Agnistom’). The Savan that takes place on the second day is called ‘Ukthya’ and the Savan that takes place on the third day is called ‘Ati Raatra’. In that many other rituals prescribed from the scriptural point of view are also performed. 40-41. |
