इष्टं मे बहुभिर्यज्ञैर्दत्ता विप्रेषु दक्षिणा:॥ २७॥
प्राप्ता: कामा: श्रुता वेदा: शत्रूणां मूर्ध्नि च स्थितम्।
भृत्या मे सुभृतास्तात दीनश्चाभ्युद्धृतो जन:॥ २८॥
नोत्सहेऽद्य द्विजश्रेष्ठ पाण्डवान् वक्तु मीदृशम्। |

| अनुवाद |
| पिताजी! मैंने अनेक यज्ञ किए हैं। ब्राह्मणों को यथोचित दक्षिणा दी है। अपनी समस्त मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण की हैं। वेदों का श्रवण किया है। शत्रुओं के मस्तक पर चरण रखा है और जीविका के पात्र लोगों के भरण-पोषण की उत्तम व्यवस्था की है। इतना ही नहीं, दीन-दुखियों के उद्धार का कार्य भी पूर्ण किया है। अतः हे ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठ! अब मैं पाण्डवों से इस प्रकार संधि की याचना नहीं कर सकता।' |

| ‘Father! I have performed many sacrifices. I have given sufficient dakshina to the Brahmins. I have fulfilled all my desires. I have listened to the Vedas. I have put my foot on the forehead of the enemies and have made good arrangements for the maintenance of the people who deserve sustenance. Not only this, I have also completed the work of upliftment of the poor. Therefore, O best of the Brahmins! Now I cannot beg the Pandavas for a treaty in this manner. |
