न चाप्यभूत् क्लान्तमना: स राजन्
यावन्नास्मान् दृष्टवान् सूतपुत्र:।
श्रुत्वा तु त्वां तेन दृष्टं समेत-
मश्वत्थाम्ना पूर्वतरं क्षतं च॥ १५॥
मन्ये कालमपयानस्य राजन्
क्रूरात् कर्णात् तेऽहमचिन्त्यकर्मन्। |

| अकल्पनीय राजा! जब तक सारथीपुत्र ने हमें नहीं देखा था, तब तक उसे कोई चिन्ता या खेद नहीं हुआ। जब मैंने सुना कि उसने सबसे पहले आप पर दृष्टि डाली थी, आपसे युद्ध किया था, तथा उससे भी पहले अश्वत्थामा ने आपको घायल कर दिया था, तब क्रूर कर्ण के सामने से आपका यहाँ आना मुझे उचित प्रतीत हुआ। |
