घोड़े खुल गये और वे सब दिशाओं में दौड़ने लगे। युद्ध में शोभायमान अर्जुन का पराक्रम देखकर द्रोणपुत्र अश्वत्थामा तुरन्त उनके पास आया और अपने विशाल स्वर्ण-जटित धनुष को घुमाकर उसने समस्त विजयी योद्धाओं में श्रेष्ठ अर्जुन को तीखे बाणों से चारों ओर से आच्छादित कर दिया।
The horses were untied and they began running in all directions. Seeing the valour of Arjuna, who was adorned with glory in battle, the valiant son of Drona, Ashwatthama, immediately came to him and, swinging his huge bow adorned with gold, he covered Arjuna, the best of all victorious warriors, from all sides with sharp arrows.
