दुर्योधन ने कहा- मद्रराज! मैं जो कुछ आपसे कह रहा हूँ, उसे पुनः सुनें। प्रभु! पूर्वकाल में देवताओं और दानवों के युद्ध के समय जो घटना घटी थी और जिसे महर्षि मार्कण्डेय ने मेरे पिता को सुनाया था, उसे मैं विस्तारपूर्वक आपसे कह रहा हूँ। हे राजन! इसे ध्यानपूर्वक सुनें, आपको इसके विषय में अन्यथा विचार नहीं करना चाहिए।
