स तु द्विप: पञ्चभिरुत्तमेषुभि:
कृत: षडंशश्चतुरो नृपस्त्रिभि:।
कृतो दशांश: कुशलेन युध्यता

| कुशल योद्धा अश्वत्थामा ने पाँच उत्कृष्ट बाण चलाकर हाथी के छह टुकड़े कर दिए। फिर तीन बाणों से उसने राजा के चार टुकड़े कर दिए। इस प्रकार उसने दोनों को मिलाकर दस भागों में बाँट दिया। ठीक वैसे ही जैसे एक कुशल पुरोहित यज्ञ में इंद्र आदि दस देवताओं के लिए हवि को दस भागों में बाँट देता है। |

| The skilled warrior Ashvatthama shot five excellent arrows and cut the elephant into six pieces. Then with three arrows he cut the king into four pieces.
