उस समय अर्जुन ने उस असंख्य, असीम, अगम्य और अभेद्य युद्ध-समुद्र को अपने बाणों से रोक दिया, मानो वह तटवर्ती तट हो। उस युद्ध-समुद्र में बाणों की लहरें उठ रही थीं, फड़फड़ाती हुई ध्वजाएँ मधुमक्खियों के समान, हाथी मगरमच्छ के समान, पैदल सैनिक मछली और कीचड़ के समान, शंख और नगाड़ों की ध्वनि उस युद्ध-समुद्र की गम्भीर गर्जना के समान, रथ ऊँची लहरों के समान, योद्धाओं के पगड़ी और मुकुट कछुओं के समान, छत्र और ध्वजाएँ झाग के समान तथा मतवाले हाथियों के शव उस युद्ध-समुद्र को ढकने वाली ऊँची चट्टानों के समान प्रतीत हो रहे थे।
At that time Arjuna stopped that innumerable, boundless, impassable and impenetrable sea of battle with his arrows, like a bordering coast. Waves of arrows were rising in that sea of battle, the fluttering flags appeared like bees, the elephants were crocodiles, the foot soldiers appeared like fish and mud, the sound of conches and drums was the deep roar of that ocean of battle, the chariots appeared like high waves, the turbans and helmets of the warriors were like turtles, the umbrellas and flags appeared like foam and the carcasses of the drunken elephants were like high rocks covering that sea of battle.
