चारों वेदों के स्वाध्याय से प्रसन्न होकर देवता और पितर नाना प्रकार के तर्पण और श्राद्ध ग्रहण करते थे। सर्वत्र इष्ट (यज्ञ-यागादि) और पूर्त (वापी, कूप, तड़ाग और वृक्षारोपण आदि) के अनुष्ठान होते रहते थे।
