इसी बीच शान्तनुपुत्र भीष्म ने अपने रथ की गड़गड़ाहट से समस्त दिशाओं को गुंजायमान कर दिया तथा अपने धनुष की टंकार से लोगों को मूर्छित कर दिया और युद्धभूमि में पाण्डव सैनिकों पर आक्रमण कर दिया।
