उस समय युद्धस्थल में भीष्म के मन में किंचितमात्र भी आसक्ति नहीं थी । उन्होंने सनातन शक्तिमान भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का आह्वान करते हुए कहा - आओ, आओ, हे देव! जगन्निवास! आपको नमस्कार है । चक्र हाथ में लेकर माधव आये हैं! सबको शरण देने वाले लोकनाथ! आज इस उत्तम रथ द्वारा युद्धस्थल में मुझे बलपूर्वक मार डालो । 96-97॥
