राजन! जिनकी कृपा से मुझे परम दिव्य ज्ञान, इन्द्रियों से परे की वस्तुओं को भी प्रत्यक्ष देखने की दृष्टि, दूर से भी सब कुछ सुन लेने की शक्ति, दूसरों के मन की बात समझने की क्षमता, भूत और भविष्य का ज्ञान, शास्त्र विरुद्ध चलने वाले मनुष्यों की उत्पत्ति का ज्ञान, आकाश में विचरण करने की परम शक्ति तथा युद्ध के समय मेरे शरीर का अस्त्र-शस्त्र से अछूता रहने का अद्भुत चमत्कार आदि प्राप्त हुआ है। जिन महात्माओं के आशीर्वाद से मेरे लिए जो कुछ संभव हुआ है, वे सब आपके पिता ने ही मुझे दिया है। पराशरनंदन, मैं बुद्धिमान व्यासजी को प्रणाम करके भरतों के इस अत्यंत अद्भुत, विचित्र और रोमांचकारी युद्ध का वर्णन आरम्भ करता हूँ। यह सब किस प्रकार हुआ, यह आप मुझसे विस्तारपूर्वक सुनिए। 7-10॥
Rajan! By whose grace I have received the supreme divine knowledge, the vision to directly see even the things beyond the senses, the power to hear everything even from a distance, the ability to understand the thoughts of others, the knowledge of the past and the future, the knowledge of the origin of human beings who go against the scriptures, the supreme power of walking in the sky and the wonderful miracle of my body remaining untouched by weapons during war, etc. All the things which have become possible for me due to the blessings of the Mahatma, were given to me by your father. Parasharanandan, I begin the description of this very wonderful, strange and thrilling war of the Bharatas by saluting the wise Vyasji. You hear from me in detail how all this happened. 7-10॥
