पाण्डव योद्धा भीष्म के पतन से अत्यन्त प्रसन्न थे और आनन्द से विह्वल होकर विश्राम कर रहे थे। उसी समय पराक्रमी भगवान श्रीकृष्ण समय पर उनके पास पहुँचे और धर्मपुत्र युधिष्ठिर से इस प्रकार बोले - 'कुरु नन्दन! यह सौभाग्य की बात है कि तुम विजय प्राप्त कर रहे हो। यह भी सौभाग्य की बात है कि भीष्म रथ से नीचे गिरा दिये गये।'
