पुन:पुनर्न मृष्यामि हतं देवव्रतं रणे।
न हतो जामदग्न्येन दिव्यैरस्त्रैरयं पुरा॥ ६॥
स हतो द्रौपदेयेन पाञ्चाल्येन शिखण्डिना।
अनुवाद
मुझे बार-बार यह बात असह्य लगती है कि भीष्म देवव्रत युद्धभूमि में मारे गए। वही भीष्म जो पूर्वकाल में जमदग्निपुत्र परशुराम के दिव्यास्त्रों से भी नहीं मारे जा सके थे, उन्हें द्रुपदपुत्र पांचालवंशी शिखंडी ने मार डाला; यह बड़े दुःख की बात है।
I find it unbearable again and again that Bhishma Devavrata was killed on the battlefield. The same Bhishma who could not be killed even by the divine weapons of Jamadagni's son Parashurama in the past, was killed by Shikhandi of Panchal, son of Drupada; it is a matter of great sorrow.
