देवानां स्वप्रकाशत्वाद् दमाद् दामोदरो विभु:॥ ८॥
अनुवाद
शत्रु सेनाओं पर विजय पाने वाले ये भगवान श्रीकृष्ण किसी विधाता से उत्पन्न नहीं हुए हैं, इसलिए इन्हें 'अज' कहा जाता है। देवता स्वयं प्रकाशित हैं, इसलिए उत्कृष्ट रूप से प्रकाशित होने के कारण भगवान श्रीकृष्ण 'उदार' कहलाते हैं और दम (इंद्रिय संयम) नामक गुण से संपन्न होने के कारण इनका नाम 'दाम' है। इस प्रकार, दम और उदार इन दो शब्दों के मेल से इन्हें 'दामोदर' कहा जाता है।
This Lord Krishna, who conquers the enemy forces, is not born from any creator, therefore he is called 'Aj'. Gods are self-illuminated, therefore, due to being illuminated in an excellent form, Lord Krishna is called 'Udar' and due to being endowed with the virtue called Dam (senses control), his name is 'Daam'. Thus, due to the combination of these two words - Dam and Udar, he is called 'Daamodar'. 8.
