तत्पश्चात् धर्मात्मा देवराज ने तीनों लोकों के अधिष्ठाता भगवान विष्णु की आराधना की। इस प्रकार देवताओं को भय देने वाले महाबली वृत्रासुर के मारे जाने पर इन्द्र विश्वासघातरूपी असत्य से अभिभूत होकर हृदय में अत्यन्त दुःखी हो गए। त्रिशिरा के वध से उत्पन्न ब्रह्महत्या ने तो उन्हें पहले ही घेर लिया था। 43-44॥
