वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं - जनमेजय! तत्पश्चात, नियत समय तक अपनी प्रतिज्ञा का पालन करते हुए, अग्नि के समान तेजस्वी, पाँचों महारथी पाण्डव भाई तीसरे दिन स्नान करके, श्वेत वस्त्र धारण करके, समस्त राजसी अलंकारों से सुसज्जित होकर, राजसभा के द्वार पर खड़े हुए मदमस्त हाथियों के समान शोभायमान होने लगे। वे राजा युधिष्ठिर को आगे करके विराट के दरबार में गए और राजाओं के लिए रखे गए सिंहासनों पर बैठ गए। उस समय वे भिन्न-भिन्न यज्ञ वेदियों पर जलती हुई अग्नि के समान चमक रहे थे।
