तत्पश्चात् पराक्रमी अश्वत्थामा ने युद्धभूमि में विचरण करते हुए अर्जुन के धनुष की डोरी में एक छोटा-सा छेद (थोड़ी-सी असावधानी) देखकर क्षुर नामक बाण से उसे काट डाला। उसके इस अलौकिक कार्य को देखकर समस्त देवता उसकी बहुत प्रशंसा करने लगे।
Thereafter the mighty Ashvatthama, while roaming on the battlefield, seeing a small hole (a little carelessness) in Arjuna's bowstring, cut it with an arrow called Kshur. Seeing this superhuman act of his, all the gods started praising him a lot.
