| | | | श्लोक 4.2.15-18  | सूर्य: प्रतपतां श्रेष्ठो द्विपदां ब्राह्मणो वर:।
आशीविषश्च सर्पाणामग्निस्तेजस्विनां वर:॥ १५॥
आयुधानां वरं वज्रं ककुद्मी च गवां वर:।
ह्रदानामुदधि: श्रेष्ठ: पर्जन्यो वर्षतां वर:॥ १६॥
धृतराष्ट्रश्च नागानां हस्तिष्वैरावणो वर:।
पुत्र: प्रियाणामधिको भार्या च सुहृदां वरा॥ १७॥
(गिरीणां प्रवरो मेरुर्देवानां मधुसूदन:।
ग्रहाणां प्रवरश्चन्द्र: सरसां मानसं वरम्॥ )
यथैतानि विशिष्टानि जात्यां जात्यां वृकोदर।
एवं युवा गुडाकेश: श्रेष्ठ: सर्वधनुष्मताम्॥ १८॥ | | | | | | अनुवाद | | जैसे दाहक वस्तुओं में सूर्य श्रेष्ठ है, मनुष्यों में ब्राह्मण का स्थान उच्च है, जैसे सर्पों में विषधर सर्प श्रेष्ठ हैं, तेजवानों में अग्नि श्रेष्ठ है, शस्त्रों में वज्र का स्थान सर्वोच्च है, गौओं में ऊँचे कंधों वाला बैल श्रेष्ठ माना गया है, जलाशयों में समुद्र श्रेष्ठ है, वर्षा करने वाले मेघों में पर्जन्य श्रेष्ठ है, नागों में धृतराष्ट्र श्रेष्ठ है और हाथियों में ऐरावत श्रेष्ठ है, जैसे प्रिय बन्धुओं में पुत्र सबसे प्रिय है और अकारण मंगल चाहने वाले मित्रों में पतिव्रता स्त्री श्रेष्ठ है, जैसे पर्वतों में मेरु श्रेष्ठ है, देवताओं में मधुसूदन भगवान विष्णु श्रेष्ठ हैं, ग्रहों में चंद्रमा श्रेष्ठ हैं और सरोवरों में मानसरोवर श्रेष्ठ है। भीमसेन! जैसे ये पूर्वोक्त वस्तुएँ अपने-अपने वर्णों में विशेष मानी जाती हैं, वैसे ही यह गुडाकेश (निद्रा को जीतने वाला) अर्जुन, जो युवावस्था से संपन्न है, सम्पूर्ण धनुर्धरों में श्रेष्ठ है।।15-18।। | | | | Just as the Sun is the best among the burning objects, the position of Brahmin is high among men, just as the snakes with the poisonous species are great among the snakes, Agni is the best among the brilliant ones, Vajra has the highest position among the weapons, the bull with high shoulders is considered to be the greatest among the cows, the ocean is the greatest among the water bodies, Parjanya is the best among the rain-bearing clouds, Dhritarashtra is the greatest among the serpents and Airavat is the greatest among the elephants, just as the son is the most loved among the dear relatives and the virtuous wife is the greatest among the friends who wish well without any reason, just as Meru is the best among the mountains, Madhusudan Lord Vishnu is the best among the gods, the Moon is the best among the planets and Manasarovar is the best among the lakes.
