वैशम्पायन कहते हैं - जनमेजय! तत्पश्चात मत्स्यराज ने बृहन्नला की गायन, नृत्य और वाद्य-वादन की कलाओं की परीक्षा ली तथा अपने मंत्रियों से परामर्श लिया कि उसे हरम में रखा जाए या नहीं। तत्पश्चात उन्होंने शीघ्र ही युवतियों द्वारा उसकी नपुंसकता की परीक्षा करवाई। जब उसकी नपुंसकता सब प्रकार से सिद्ध हो गई, तब यह सुनकर और समझकर उन्होंने बृहन्नला को उस कन्या के हरम में जाने का आदेश दिया।
Vaishampayana says - Janamejaya! Thereafter Matsyanaraja tested Brihannala in the arts of singing, dancing and playing musical instruments and took advice from his ministers whether he should be kept in the harem or not. Then he quickly got his impotency tested by the young women. When his impotency was proved in all respects, then after listening and understanding this, he ordered Brihannala to go to the girl's harem. 11 1/2.
