नाप्राप्तकालो म्रियते श्रुतं वृद्धानुशासनम्।
या नाहमद्य मृदिता हस्तियूथेन दु:खिता॥ ३९॥
अनुवाद
'जिसकी मृत्यु का समय नहीं आया है, वह चाहकर भी नहीं मर सकता। मैंने वृद्धों से जो उपदेश सुना है, वह उचित प्रतीत होता है, इसीलिए आज पीड़ा सहते हुए भी मैं हाथियों के झुंड से कुचलकर नहीं मर सका।'
‘One whose time of death has not come cannot die even if he wishes to. The advice I have heard from the old men seems to be correct, that is why today, in spite of being in pain, I could not be crushed to death by a herd of elephants.
