उस विशाल नेत्रों वाली युवती को अजगर द्वारा निगलते देख शिकारी ने बड़ी तेजी से दौड़कर एक तीक्ष्ण शस्त्र से अजगर का मुँह फाड़ डाला। अजगर तड़प उठा और निश्चल हो गया। मृगों को मारकर जीविका चलाने वाले शिकारी ने सर्प के टुकड़े-टुकड़े करके दमयन्ती को मुक्त कर दिया। फिर उसने उसके सर्प-ग्रस्त शरीर को जल से धोया और उसे आश्वस्त करके उसके भोजन का प्रबंध किया। भरत! जब वह भोजन कर चुकी, तब शिकारी ने उससे पूछा-॥27-29॥
