सहसा महान् कर्म करने वाले कुन्तीपुत्र अर्जुन के पास आकर भगवान शंकर ने एक अद्भुत रूपवान मूक नामक दैत्य को देखा, जो शूकर का रूप धारण करके अत्यंत बलवान अर्जुन को मार डालने का उपाय सोच रहा था; उस समय अर्जुन ने हाथ में गाण्डीव धनुष और विषधर सर्पों के समान भयंकर बाण लेकर धनुष पर प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाई और उसकी टंकार से दिशाओं को प्रतिध्वनित करते हुए कहा - ॥7-9॥
