मार्कण्डेय कहते हैं: युधिष्ठिर! जब वानर सेना शिविर में प्रवेश करने लगी, तब रावण की सेना में शामिल पर्वण, पाटन, जम्भ, खर, क्रोधवश, हरि, प्रारुज, अरुज और प्रघास आदि भूत-प्रेतों और दुष्ट राक्षसों के अनेक समूह आकर उन पर आक्रमण करने लगे।
Mārkaṇḍeya says: Yudhishthir! When the monkey army started entering the camp, several groups of ghosts and evil demons such as Parvana, Patan, Jambha, Khar, Krodhavash, Hari, Praruj, Aruj and Praghas who were part of Ravan's army came and attacked them.
