रावण के ऐसे वचन सुनकर जनक की सुन्दरी कन्या ने कान बंद करके कहा, 'बस, अब ऐसी बातें मत कहो। आकाश तारों समेत फट जाए, पृथ्वी टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो जाए और अग्नि अपनी गर्मी छोड़कर ठंडी हो जाए, परन्तु मैं रघुकुल के पुत्र श्री रामचन्द्रजी को नहीं छोड़ सकती।'
