हे जनमेजय! भगवान ने उसे वरदान दिया और जयद्रथ ने उसे स्वीकार कर लिया। वह वरदान क्या था? मैं तुमसे कहता हूँ, सुनो, 'मैं पाँचों पांडवों को उनके रथों सहित युद्ध में परास्त कर दूँ', यही वरदान सिंधुराज ने महादेवजी से माँगा था। किन्तु महादेवजी ने उससे कहा, 'यह संभव नहीं है। पांडव अजेय और अविनाशी हैं। तुम महाबाहु अर्जुन को छोड़कर शेष चारों पांडवों को युद्ध में केवल एक दिन के लिए ही आगे बढ़ने से रोक सकते हो। जो देवेश्वर पुरुष बदरिकाश्रम में भगवान नारायण के साथ तपस्या करते हैं, वे अर्जुन हैं।'
O Janamejaya, the Lord granted him a boon and Jayadratha accepted it. What was that boon? I will tell you, listen, 'May I defeat all the five Pandavas along with their chariots in battle', this was the boon Sindhuraaj asked from Mahadevji. But Mahadevji told him, 'This is not possible. The Pandavas are invincible and indestructible. You can stop the four Pandavas from advancing except the mighty-armed Arjuna in battle for just one day. The Deveshwar man, who performs penance with Lord Narayana in Badarikashram, is Arjuna.
