ततस्तमासाद्य महाजनौघा:
कुरुप्रवीरं परिवार्य तस्थु:।
हा नाथ हा धर्म इति ब्रुवाणा
भीताश्च सर्वेऽश्रुमुखाश्च राजन्॥ ८॥
वर: कुरूणामधिप: प्रजानां
पितेव पुत्रानपहाय चास्मान्।
पौरानिमाञ्जानपदांश्च सर्वान्
हित्वा प्रयात: क्व नु धर्मराज:॥ ९॥
अनुवाद
उस महान् समुदाय (प्रजा) के लोग कुरुवंश के नायक वीर योद्धा युधिष्ठिर के पास गए और उन्हें चारों ओर से घेरकर खड़े हो गए। हे राजन! उस समय उनके मुख से आँसू बह रहे थे और वे वियोग से भयभीत होकर पुकार रहे थे - हे प्रभु! हे धर्म! - 'अपनी प्रजा पर पिता के समान स्नेह रखने वाले कुरुवंश के महान् शासक धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर हम सब नगरवासियों और सम्पूर्ण देशवासियों को छोड़कर अब कहाँ जा रहे हैं?॥ 8-9॥
The people of that great community (subjects) went to the brave warrior Yudhishthira, the leader of the Kuru clan, and stood surrounding him from all sides. O King! At that time, tears were flowing from their faces and they were frightened of separation and were calling out - Oh Lord! Oh Dharma! - 'Where is the great ruler of the Kuru clan, Dharmaraja Yudhishthira, who has a fatherly affection for his subjects, going now, leaving behind all of us, the residents of the city and the citizens of the entire country?॥ 8-9॥
