अहिंसेति यदुक्तं हि पुरुषैर्विस्मितै: पुरा।
के न हिंसन्ति जीवान् वै लोकेऽस्मिन् द्विजसत्तम।
बहु संचिन्त्य इति वै नास्ति कश्चिदहिंसक:॥ २३॥
अनुवाद
'पूर्वकाल के अभिमानरहित महापुरुषों ने जो अहिंसा का सिद्धान्त प्रतिपादित किया है, उसे (समझना चाहिए, क्योंकि) द्विज ही श्रेष्ठ है! (यदि वृहत् दृष्टि से देखा जाए तो) इस संसार में प्राणियों की हिंसा कौन नहीं करता? बहुत विचार करने के बाद मैं इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचा हूँ कि कोई भी (कर्मशील मनुष्य) अहिंसक नहीं है। 23॥
‘The principle of non-violence preached by the prideless great men of the past (should be understood because) Dwija is the best! (If seen from a macro perspective) who does not commit violence against animals in this world? After a lot of thinking, I have come to the conclusion that no one (an active human being) is non-violent. 23॥
