मुनिवर! आपने ब्राह्मणों की महानता का वर्णन किया है, अब हम क्षत्रियों की महानता के विषय में कुछ सुनना चाहते हैं।' यह सुनकर महर्षि मार्कण्डेय बोले - 'अच्छा, सुनो। अब मैं क्षत्रियों की महानता का वर्णन करूँगा। कुरुवंश के क्षत्रियों में एक राजा थे, जो सुहोत्र नाम से प्रसिद्ध थे। एक दिन जब वे महर्षि का सत्संग करके वहाँ से लौट रहे थे, तो उन्होंने अपने ठीक सामने रथ पर बैठे हुए उशीनर के पुत्र राजा शिबि को देखा। निकट आने पर दोनों ने अपनी आयु के अनुसार एक-दूसरे का आदर किया। किन्तु गुणों में स्वयं को समान मानकर एक ने दूसरे को मार्ग नहीं दिया। तभी देवर्षि नारदजी वहाँ प्रकट हुए और पूछा - 'यह क्या है कि तुम दोनों इस प्रकार एक-दूसरे का मार्ग रोककर खड़े हो?'॥ 2॥
Munivar! You have described the greatness of Brahmins, now we want to hear something about the greatness of Kshatriyas.' Hearing this, Maharishi Markandeya said - 'Okay, listen. Now I will describe the greatness of Kshatriyas. There was a king among the Kshatriyas of Kuru dynasty, famous by the name of Suhotra. One day, when he was returning from there after attending the satsang of Maharishi, he saw King Sibi, son of Ushinara, sitting in a chariot right in front of him. On coming close, both of them respected each other according to their age. But considering themselves equal in qualities, one did not give way to the other. Just then Devrishi Naradji appeared there and asked, 'What is this that both of you are standing blocking each other's way like this?'॥ 2॥
