श्लेष्मातकी क्षीणवर्चा: शृणोषि
उताहो त्वां स्तुतयो मादयन्ति।
हस्तीव त्वं जनक विनुद्यमानो
न मामिकां वाचमिमां शृणोषि॥ २८॥
अनुवाद
राजा! ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि आपने लसोड़े के पत्तों पर भोजन किया है या उसके फल खाए हैं, जिससे आपका तेज क्षीण हो गया है; इसलिए आप बंदी की बात सुन रहे हैं, अथवा इस बंदी द्वारा कही गई प्रशंसा आपको पागल बना रही है। यही कारण है कि आप मेरे इन वचनों को उस पागल हाथी के समान नहीं सुन रहे हैं जो अंकुश के प्रहार पर भी नहीं सुनता।
King! It seems that you have eaten food on the leaves of Lasora or have eaten its fruit, due to which your brilliance has diminished; therefore you are listening to the prisoner, or the praises uttered by this prisoner are driving you mad. This is the reason that you are not listening to these words of mine like a mad elephant which does not listen even after being struck by the goad.
