तत्पश्चात् एक दिन, जब अष्टावक्र बारह वर्ष के थे और अपने पितातुल्य उद्दालक ऋषि की गोद में बैठे थे, तब श्वेतकेतु वहाँ आए और रोते हुए अष्टावक्र का हाथ पकड़कर उन्हें घसीटते हुए ले गए। इस प्रकार अष्टावक्र को दूर धकेलते हुए श्वेतकेतु ने कहा, "यह तुम्हारे पिता की गोद नहीं है।"॥18॥
Thereafter one day, when Ashtavakra was twelve years old and was sitting in the lap of sage Uddalaka, who was like a father to him, Svetaketu came there and, weeping, caught hold of Ashtavakra's hand and dragged him away. Thus, pushing Ashtavakra away, Svetaketu said, "This is not your father's lap."॥18॥
