च्यवन ऋषि की तपस्या से वहाँ कृत्या प्रकट हुई। उस कृत्या के रूप में मद नामक एक अत्यंत शक्तिशाली और विशालकाय राक्षस प्रकट हुआ। उसके शरीर का वर्णन देवता और दानव भी नहीं कर सकते। उस राक्षस का विशाल मुख अत्यंत भयानक था। उसके आगे के दाँत अत्यंत तीखे लग रहे थे। उसका निचला होंठ ठोड़ी सहित धरती पर टिका हुआ था और दूसरा स्वर्ग तक पहुँच गया था। उसके चारों दाढ़ सौ-सौ योजन तक फैले हुए थे।
Due to the austerity of sage Chyavan, Kritya appeared there. In the form of that Kritya, a very powerful and gigantic demon Mada appeared. Even gods and demons cannot describe his body. The huge face of that demon was very scary. His front teeth looked very sharp. His lower lip along with his chin was resting on the earth and the other one had reached the heaven. His four molars were spread up to hundred yojanas each.
