निकट आने पर उन्होंने देखा कि उनका पुत्र अकेला, विचारों में खोया हुआ और उदास बैठा है। उसकी मनःस्थिति भिन्न थी। वह ऊपर की ओर देख रहा था और बार-बार आहें भर रहा था। अपने पुत्र को इस दयनीय अवस्था में देखकर विभाण्डक ऋषि ने पूछा, "पुत्र! आज तुम अग्निकुण्ड में लकड़ियाँ क्यों नहीं डाल रहे हो? क्या तुमने अग्निहोत्र किया है? क्या तुमने स्रुक और स्रुवा आदि यज्ञपात्रों को भली-भाँति शुद्ध किया है? क्या ऐसा हुआ है कि तुमने हवन के लिए दुधारू गाय के बछड़े को खोला और उसने सारा दूध पी लिया? पुत्र! आज तुम पहले जैसे नहीं लग रहे हो। तुम किसी भारी चिंता में डूबे हुए हो, तुम अपनी सुध-बुध खो बैठे हो। आज तुम इतने उदास क्यों दिखाई दे रहे हो? मैं तुमसे पूछता हूँ, बताओ, आज यहाँ कौन आया था?"॥ 21-23॥
On coming near, he saw his son sitting alone, lost in thoughts and sad. His state of mind was different. He was looking upwards and sighing again and again. Seeing his son in this pitiable state, sage Vibhandak asked, “Son! Why are you not putting firewood in the fire pit today? Have you performed Agnihotra? Have you purified the yajna patras like Sruk and Sruva properly? Has it happened that you have opened the calf of the milk cow for the havan and it has drunk all the milk? Son! Today you do not look like before. You are immersed in some heavy worry, you have lost your senses. What is the reason that you are looking so sad today? I ask you, tell me, who came here today?”॥ 21-23॥
इति श्रीमहाभारते वनपर्वणि तीर्थयात्रापर्वणि लोमशतीर्थयात्रायामृष्यशृङ्गोपाख्याने एकादशाधिकशततमोऽध्याय:॥ १११॥
इस प्रकार श्रीमहाभारत वनपर्वके अन्तर्गत तीर्थयात्रापर्वमें लोमशतीर्थयात्राके प्रसंगमें ऋष्यशृंगोपाख्यानविषयक एक सौ ग्यारहवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ॥ १११॥
