यह सुनकर महर्षि अगस्त्य ने वहाँ एकत्रित हुए इन्द्र सहित समस्त देवताओं से कहा - 'देवताओं! मैंने उस जल को पचा लिया है, अतः आप लोग निरन्तर प्रयत्न करके समुद्र को भरने का कोई अन्य उपाय सोचिए।' महर्षि के शुद्ध हृदय से कहे गए इन वचनों को सुनकर समस्त देवताओं को बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ; उनके मन शोक से भर गए। आपस में परामर्श करके उन्होंने महर्षि अगस्त्य को प्रणाम किया और वहाँ से चले गए।
On hearing this, the great sage Agastya said to all the gods including Indra who had gathered there - 'Gods! I have digested that water, so you all should think of some other way to fill the ocean by constantly trying.' On hearing these words of the great sage with a pure heart, all the gods were very surprised; their minds were filled with sorrow. After consulting among themselves, they bowed to sage Agastya and left from there.
