कुन्त्युवाच
कथं सद्धर्मचारित्रान् वृत्तस्थितिविभूषितान्।
अक्षुद्रान् दृढभक्तांश्च दैवतेज्यापरान् सदा॥ १३॥
व्यसनं व: समभ्यागात् कोऽयं विधिविपर्यय:।
कस्यापध्यानजं चेदं धिया पश्यामि नैव तत्॥ १४॥ |

| अनुवाद |
| कुन्ती बोली - पुत्रो! तुम लोग उत्तम धर्म के अनुयायी हो और सदाचार की मर्यादाओं से सुशोभित हो। तुममें क्षुद्रता का अभाव है। तुम भगवान के अनन्य भक्त हो और उनकी पूजा में सदैव तत्पर रहते हो, फिर भी तुम पर यह विपत्ति का पहाड़ टूट पड़ा है। विधाता का यह कैसा विचित्र विधान है। किसके कुविचारों ने तुम पर यह महान दुःख ला दिया है, मैं मन से बार-बार विचार करने पर भी इसे समझ नहीं पा रही हूँ॥13-14॥ |

| Kunti said - Sons! You are the followers of the best religion and are adorned with the limits of good conduct. You lack pettiness. You are a staunch devotee of God and are always ready to worship him, yet this mountain of trouble has fallen on you. What a strange law of the Creator is this. Whose evil thoughts have brought this great sorrow on you, I am unable to understand this even after thinking repeatedly with my mind.॥ 13-14॥ |
