कर्ण उवाच
त्रय: किलेमे ह्यधना भवन्ति
दास: पुत्रश्चास्वतन्त्रा च नारी।
दासस्य पत्नी त्वधनस्य भद्रे
हीनेश्वरा दासधनं च सर्वम्॥ १॥
अनुवाद
कर्ण ने कहा, "प्रिय द्रौपदी! दास, पुत्र और सदैव किसी के अधीन रहने वाली स्त्री - ये तीनों धन के स्वामी नहीं हैं। जिस दरिद्र दास का पति ऐश्वर्य से भ्रष्ट हो गया हो, उसकी पत्नी तथा दास का सारा धन - ये सब उस दास के स्वामी के ही हैं।"
Karna said, "Dear Draupadi! A slave, a son and a woman who is always under someone's control - these three are not the owners of wealth. The wife of a poor slave whose husband has been corrupted by his opulence and all the wealth of the slave - all these belong only to the master of that slave."
