प्राचीन काल की कथा है, प्रलयकाल में सभी जीव-जंतु, देवता, दानव, मनुष्य, नाग और राक्षस नष्ट हो गए थे। उस समय एकार्णव (सागर) के जल में दो अत्यंत भयंकर राक्षस रहते थे, जिनके नाम मधु और कैटभ थे। दोनों भाई युद्ध करना चाहते थे। उसी भगवान नारायण ने उन दोनों राक्षसों को मनोवांछित वरदान देकर उनका वध कर दिया।
It is a story of the past, during the time of deluge, all living beings, gods, demons, humans, serpents and monsters were destroyed. At that time, two very fierce demons lived in the water of Ekarnava (ocean), whose names were Madhu and Kaitabha. Both the brothers wanted to fight. The same Lord Narayana killed those two demons by giving them the desired boons.
