महामना युधिष्ठिर के उस यज्ञ-स्थल पर राजर्षियों के साथ बैठे हुए नारद आदि महर्षि ब्रह्माजी की सभा में एकत्रित हुए देवताओं और ऋषियों के समान शोभायमान हो रहे थे। बीच-बीच में यज्ञ-सम्बन्धी विविध कार्यों से अवकाश पाकर परम प्रतिभाशाली विद्वान् लोग आपस में शास्त्रार्थ करते थे। ‘इसे इस प्रकार करना चाहिए’, ‘नहीं, इसे इस प्रकार नहीं करना चाहिए’, ‘यह ऐसा ही है, यह इससे भिन्न नहीं हो सकता।’ ऐसा कहकर बहुत से कुतर्कवादी वहाँ शास्त्रार्थ करते थे।
At that place of sacrifice of the great king Yudhishthira, the great sages like Narada etc. sitting with the royal sages were looking as graceful as the gods and sages assembled in the assembly of Brahmaji. In between, after getting a break from the various tasks related to the sacrifice, the highly talented scholars used to debate amongst themselves. ‘It should be done in this way’, ‘No, it should not be done in this way’, ‘This is how it is, it is like this, it cannot be different from this.’ Many sophists used to debate there saying this.
