पुरा शक्रस्य यजत: सर्व ऊचुर्महर्षय:।
ऋत्विक्षु कर्मव्यग्रेषु वितते यज्ञकर्मणि॥ ८॥
हूयमाने तथा वह्नौ होत्रे गुणसमन्विते।
देवेष्वाहूयमानेषु स्थितेषु परमर्षिषु॥ ९॥
सुप्रतीतैस्तथा विप्रै: स्वागमै: सुस्वरैर्नृप।
अश्रान्तैश्चापि लघुभिरध्वर्युवृषभैस्तथा॥ १०॥
आलम्भसमये तस्मिन् गृहीतेषु पशुष्वथ।
महर्षयो महाराज बभूवु: कृपयान्विता:॥ ११॥
अनुवाद
महाराज! प्राचीन काल की बात है, जब इन्द्र का यज्ञ हो रहा था और सभी महर्षि मंत्रोच्चार कर रहे थे, पुरोहित अपने-अपने कार्य में व्यस्त थे, यज्ञ बड़े ही विधिपूर्वक और भव्यता से चल रहा था, अग्नि में उत्तम गुणों की आहुतियाँ डाली जा रही थीं, देवताओं का आह्वान हो रहा था, महर्षि खड़े थे, ब्राह्मण अत्यंत प्रसन्न स्वर में वेदमंत्रों का पाठ कर रहे थे और शीघ्र कार्य करने वाले श्रेष्ठ अध्वर्युगण बिना थके अपना कार्य कर रहे थे। इतने में पशुओं को लाने का समय आ गया। महाराज! जब पशुओं को पकड़ लिया गया, तब महर्षियों को उन पर बड़ी दया आई। 8-11।
King! It is a matter of ancient times, when the sacrifice of Indra was being performed and all the great sages were chanting mantras, the priests were busy in their respective duties, the sacrifice was going on with great ceremony and elaborateness, the offerings of the best qualities were being offered in the fire, the gods were being invoked, great sages were standing, the Brahmins were reciting the Vedic mantras in a very happy tone and the fast-acting excellent Adhvaryugan were performing their duties without any fatigue. Meanwhile the time came for the animals to be brought. Maharaj! When the animals were captured, the great sages felt very compassionate towards them. 8-11.
