ससुरजी ने कहा, "पुत्री! तुम्हारा सारा शरीर वायु और धूप के कारण सूख रहा है। दुर्बल हो रहा है। तुम्हारी कांति फीकी पड़ गई है। हे उत्तम व्रतों और अनुष्ठानों का पालन करने वाली पुत्री! तुम अत्यंत दुर्बल हो गई हो। भूख की पीड़ा से तुम्हारा मन अत्यंत व्याकुल है। तुम्हें ऐसी अवस्था में देखकर भी मैं तुम्हारे भाग का सत्तू कैसे ग्रहण कर सकता हूँ? ऐसा करने से मैं धर्म का नाश करने वाला हो जाऊँगा। इसलिए हे कल्याणी, तुम कल्याणकारी आचरण करने वाली हो! तुम्हें ऐसा नहीं कहना चाहिए।" 72-73.
The father-in-law said, "Daughter! Your whole body is drying up because of the wind and the sun. It is becoming weak. Your radiance has faded. O daughter who follows the best vows and rituals! You have become very weak. Your mind is extremely troubled due to the pain of hunger. How can I take your share of sattu even after seeing you in such a state? By doing so, I will become a destroyer of Dharma. Therefore, O Kalyani who behaves in a benevolent manner! You should not say such a thing. 72-73.
