भीष्म कहते हैं - राजन! यह सुनकर महर्षि अत्रि समझ गए कि यह कोई राक्षसी कृत्य है और हम सब ऋषियों को मारने के उद्देश्य से यहाँ आया है। तथापि भूख से व्याकुल होकर उन्होंने इस प्रकार उत्तर दिया।
