भीष्म उवाच
यन्मन्त्रे भवति वृथोपयुज्यमाने
यत् सोमे भवति वृथाभिषूयमाणे।
यच्चाग्नौ भवति वृथाभिहूयमाने
तत् सर्वं भवति वृथाभिधीयमाने॥ २८॥ |

| भीष्मजी कहते हैं - युधिष्ठिर! वेदमंत्रों का व्यर्थ प्रयोग करने से जो पाप लगता है, दक्षिणा आदि न देने से सोमयाग का नाश करने से जो पाप लगता है तथा विधि और मंत्र के बिना अग्नि में व्यर्थ आहुति देने से जो पाप लगता है; वह सब पाप मिथ्या भाषण करने से लगता है॥28॥ |

The sin that is incurred on using (pronouncing) the Vedic mantras in vain, the sin that is incurred on wasting the Somayag by not giving Dakshina etc. and the sin that is incurred on offering useless offerings in the fire without the method and mantra; All that sin is acquired by speaking falsely. 28॥ |
